Aquamarines are a member of the Beryl family. Prized for their pure, pale blue-green hue, they are found in Colorado, California, Maine, Connecticut and
North Carolina. Beryls occur in pegmatites which develop in certain metamorphic rocks and the stones of this class fetch some of the highest prices in
jewelry market today. Their hardness exceeds that of Apatatite, Quartz and Feldspar, ideally suiting them for fine jewelry. Other members of the Beryl
family include Emeralds, Golden Beryl, Heliodore, Morganite and Goshenite. Beryls are used in the industrial manufacture of alloys.
The word Beryl derives from the Greek Beryllos , signifying any green gemstone.
Aqua Marine is the birthstone of October.
